Frequently Asked Questions

How much water should we be using?

The average person uses 100 gallons of water a day. Roughly 3000 gal/month per person.

What should we do to keep the house comfortable heat wise?

Install digital thermostats to keep more accurate and constant temperature. The older mechanical thermostats have a 2-4 degree differential.

Where should I set the thermostat?

Where ever you are most comfortable. The difference between setting it at 68 and 70 is only a matter of a few extra dollars per month.

How often should I have my furnace serviced?

We strongly encourage every year. If you figure that your furnace runs 8 hours per day (280 hours per month x 4 months, that’s 1000 hours per year). That’s like 60,000 miles on your vehicle.

How do I save on my gas bill?

Best thing to do is change your old inefficient heating equipment. Boilers can operate at 92-98% efficiency. Forced air furnaces can operate at above 95% efficiency.

What’s the difference between regular hot water tanks and tankless?

Besides the space needed for the unit, regular hot water tanks heat the water at all times, whether it is calling for heat or not. The tankless water heaters automatically adjust the burner to give you a constant outlet temperature depending on water flow. Initially they cost more but the life expectancy of a tankless water heater is 15-20 years where a regular hot water heater is 10-12 years.

How can I save water?

Make sure to have low water consumption toilets and flow restricted faucets.

How many BTU’s should my furnace have?

We strongly recommend that our service technician look at each particular set up. There are a lot of factors involved in recommending a heating system including insulation, windows, number of floors, which way the house faces, etc.
